Posted: 01 Sep 2014 05:39 PM PDT The issue of Colombia striker Falcaos future has been one of the stories of the latter part of the transfer window, with the former Atletico Madrid man linked with an array of clubs across Europe. But United announced hours before the transfer deadline that they had struck an agreement to bring the 28-year-old to Old Trafford, though the deal was not confirmed until the early hours of Tuesday morning (GMT) after the club were granted an extension by the Premier League. United are reported to have paid 6million to seal a loan deal, which includesan option to buy Falcaofor a rumoured 55million (43.5m). I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season, Falcao told Uniteds official website. Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top. I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the teams success at this very exciting period in the clubs history. United manager Louis van Gaal added: I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season. He is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game. His appearance-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and, when a player of this calibre becomes available, it is an opportunity not to be missed. Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been linked with the 28-year-old, with speculation mounting last Saturday as he was left out of Monacos 1-1 draw with Lille. The same day reports of a message posted on the players official Twitter account appeared to suggest that he was on his way to Real. Falcao sought to clarify matters on Twitter, though, denying a story about a tweet that I have not done. And, after flying into Manchester by private jet on Monday, Falcao has become the latest high-profile signing to move to Unitedfollowing the captures of winger Angel di Maria from Real Madrid for a club-record free and Daley Blind from Ajax as new manager Louis van Gaal aims to restore the club to its former glories. Falcao joined Monaco from Atletico Madrid for a reported 50million in May last year, but has struggled with injuries at the Ligue 1 outfit. A serious knee problem, suffered in January, ruled him out of the World Cupand he has managed just 22 competitive appearances for Monaco, scoring 13 goals. Arsenal beat the deadline to bring in Welbeck Posted: 01 Sep 2014 05:32 PM PDT Many eyes were on the Emirates ahead of deadline day, with many suggesting their frontline was in dire need of reinforcements after it emerged Olivier Giroud would be out until the new year. And with United signing Monaco striker Radamel Falcao in a stunning loan switch, Louis van Gaal has allowed Welbeck - who was rumoured to be interesting Arsenal's bitter north-London rival Tottenham - to join a direct competitor for a top-four place. Welbeck, still only 23, scored 37 goals in 121 appearances for his boyhood club and follows Javier Hernandez, who joined Real Madrid on loan, in heading for the Old Trafford exit door on Monday. He has also gained 26 England caps, finding the net on eight occasions. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Hernandez walking in Sanchezs footsteps Posted: 01 Sep 2014 09:15 AM PDT Sanchez spent seven years at the Santiago Bernabeufrom 1985 to 1992 and was La Liga's top-scoring foreign player until he was surpassed by Barcelona's Lionel Messi earlier this year. But Hernandez, who joined on loan from Manchester United on Monday, insistshe willnot tryto model himself on his compatriot during his time at the club. "Playing for Real Madrid is a dream come true," said the striker."Around the world people know all aboutthis team. "Hugo Sanchez made a great career here, but I come to do my own thing, and that is to give everything to help the team. "I'm a person who is totally dedicated. A professional player on and off the field. "I will give100 per centto respond to the confidence they have shown in me and help themget the titles, which is the requirement for this club. "I see the challenge of Real Madrid with great joy and motivation. Not all players can wear this shirt. Mata wishes Kagawa well back at Dortmund Posted: 01 Sep 2014 05:32 AM PDT Kagawa was unable to exhibit his best form at Old Trafford following a move from Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles, in 2012. Having struggled to nail down a regular starting berth in his preferred playmaker role, the 26-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by new United boss Louis van Gaal and sealeda return to Signal Iduna Park on Sunday. Writing in his latest blog, Mata said of his former team-mate: "I would like to wish all the best to Shinji Kagawa, a fantastic player but especially a great person. "It's been a pleasure to be his team-mate and I'm sure both Borussia Dortmund and fans everywhere will enjoy his football again." Mata also commented on the new faces at United, hailing the capture of Angel di Maria from Real Madrid and the prospective arrival of Netherlands internationalDaley Blind from Ajax. "I would like to welcome Di Maria and Blind to the club," added the Spaniard. "I am sure these two players will give a lot to us and will strengthen the team. "We already know what Angel is capable of, his ability and dribbling skills, and Daley has a great touch and is very intelligent, as he showed during the World Cup." Real Madrid confirm Hernandez loan deal Posted: 01 Sep 2014 05:24 AM PDT Hernandez will spend the 2014-15 season at the Santiago Bernabeu, after a deal was finalisedon Monday. An official statement from the European champions read: "Real Madrid C. F. and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the loan of JavierChicharitoHernandez, who will be at the club throughout this season. "Real Madrid have the option to purchase the player. "JavierChicharitoHernandezwill appear before the media in the Santiago Bernabeu press room today at 16:30 [15:30 BST]." The signing of Hernandezadds further depth to a Real side bursting at the seams with attacking talent. And while it is almost certain that the Mexico internationalwill play a supporting role to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez, the club's packed fixture list could give him several chances to shine. Hernandez has made just two appearances for United this season, both coming in defeats. He started the club's 2-1 opening-day loss to Swansea City at Old Trafford but was hauled off at half-time, and he did little to convince new United manager Louis van Gaal in last week's shock 4-0 League Cup defeat to third-tier outfit MK Dons. Thestriker joined United in 2010 from Guadalajara and quickly established himself as a fans'favourite. He scored 19 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions in 2010-11as the Old Trafford outfit won the Premier League and reached the UEFA Champions League final. Hernandez weighed in with 10 goals in each of the 2011-12 and 2012-13 Premier League seasons but managed just four top-flightgoals last term in a campaign that saw him make only sixstarts. Blind thrilled about United move from Ajax Posted: 01 Sep 2014 01:16 AM PDT The Netherlands international is poised to complete a switch to Old Trafford on Monday after current club Ajax accepted a bid of £13.8 million from United. Blind is quoted by The Telegraph as saying: "Igot a call on Friday night [telling me] that the clubs had agreed a deal. "I was with my girlfriend and we went to my parentsto drink a glass of wine. "I am enormously proud to be at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everything has happened so suddenly. "What exactly has gone off in the background, only my agent and my dad know, but it was a very exciting and tense time." It is unclear which position the left-sided Blind is likely to adopt at United, where he will link up with former national team coach Louis van Gaal. The 24-year-old was utilised in a variety of positions by Van Gaalat the recent World Cup in Brazil. Blind added:"Did I speak with Louis van Gaal in the last few days about the role I am going to play at United? We did have some informal contact, but the conversations which took place stay between him and me. "I just want to be part of the team, in whatever role that is going to be, in defence or in midfield." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
