Argentina internationalRojo signed for United from Sporting Lisbon last month in a deal worth 16million, but has not yet featured for his new club due to delays in him being given a visa. However, the UK Border Agency granted the left-sided defender permission to live and work in the country earlier in the week, meaning he is now free to play for United. Rojo is therefore in line to make his Premier League bow when Louis van Gaals side host QPR after the international breakon September 14. And the 24-year-old, who was impressive in his countrys run to this years World Cup final, cannot wait to get going at Old Trafford. I am desperate to get onto the field and play because I have not been able to step into Old Trafford yet, Rojo told the Argentinian media. I am very happy to be at Manchester United, a top team in the world, sharing a dressing room with players like Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie [and fellow new signings] Angel di Maria and now Radamel Falcao. This is a very important step in my career as a player and as a person. Everything that has happened to me since the World Cup has been a dream.

Real president Perez faced criticism in some quarters for allowing the Argentina international to join Premier League side Manchester United for a British-record fee of59.7million last month. Perez responded by claiming he took the decision because an agreement could not be reached with Di Maria, who he said wanted to be paid a similar salary to that of Real superstar, and Ballon dOr holder, Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Di Maria insists that is not the case, adding that his move toOld Trafford came about because he believed Real were keen to sell. I heard what he [Perez] said.To earn what Cristiano does Id have to win the Ballon dOr,he told Radio America. I never said I wanted to leave Madrid. I never wanted to. During the World Cup I thought only of the World Cup and I dont know where things said in the Spanish papers [about wanting to leave]came from. Whatever they say, they got 75m for me which is very good for the economy of Real Madrid. They got back what they spent. Nobody said anything to me or my representative about staying so we thought Madrid wanted to sell.Before the World Cup there was no offer from Madrid. Di Maria also claims he ignored a request from Real to miss the World Cup final, although injury prevented the 26-year-old from featuring in his countrys 1-0 defeat to Germany anyway. There was a letter that arrived, he continued.I was getting treatment to try to play in the final and I knew if I played I had a 90 per centchance of getting hurt. When I got the letter I ripped it up. I didnt speak to anyone from the club. I didnt care. Eventually [then Argentina coach Alejandro] Sabella made the decision and it was for the best.

Di Maria wanted too much, Real announce with financial results

The Spanish giants confirmed on Friday that their revenue for last season in which they won the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey was 603.9million, an increase of 10.9 per cent on the previous financial year. For the 10th consecutive year, we will be the club with the biggest revenue in the world, Real president Florentino Perez declared. Perez has been questioned overthe sale of Di Maria - who moved to Manchester United for a British record transfer fee of 59.7mlast week - despite the close-season acquisitions of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos. But Perez announced that the sale was necessary because Di Maria wanted far too much money to stay at Real. He had economic demands that we could not satisfy,Perez added. We made our best offer at the highest level we could and he did not accept it. With the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, who we all know is the best player in the world, no other player has that level of income. If we had accepted Di Marias economic demands there would have been unequal treatment and it could put the economic stability of the club at risk. When faced with his rejection of our offer we began to think about other players and brought in Rodriguez. Real also revealed that their net profit after tax stood at 38.5m, a 4.4 per cent rise, while their net debts totalled 71.5m, a 21 per cent decrease.

What the Premier Leagues late signings will bring this season

Danny Welbeck (Arsenal) Arsenal fans were crying out for Arsene Wenger to splash out on a striker before the closing of the annual Jim White Jamboree, and in the closing moments of deadline day (well, an hour after actually, due to special dispensation) their prayers were answered. Sort of. Welbeck came in, signing for £16 million from Manchester United and joining an elite brotherhood of players to play for both clubs that includes Robin van Persie, Brian Kidd and, er, Mikael Silvestre. The deal disappointed many Gunners supporters, who were after a more proven name, but already there's been a growing realisation that, actually, the 23-year-old could prove a shrewd purchase. Welbeck left United to find first-team football in his favoured position as a main striker, and while his goal record there was mediocre (29 in 142 appearances) the hard numbers neglect the many nuances. A sizeable chunk of Welbeck's appearances came either out of position or from the bench. As an out-and-out striker his record is far better. When played as a striker, as at Aston Villa last season, Welbeck does provide predatory prowess. In said game he received just 5 passes in the box, got a shot away 4 times and scored 2 goals. A sign of things to come? Radamel Falcao (Man United) Linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and, well, everyone BUT Manchester United, this deal came way outta leftfield. Another transfer that wasn't confirmed until the early hours of Tuesday morning, Falcao's loan move to Old Trafford leaves Louis van Gaal's side looking very top-heavy, with the Colombian, Van Persie and Wayne Rooney now competing for two positions –possibly even one should Van Gaal switch back to 4-2-3-1/4-3-3. Though only recently recovered from a serious knee injury which raises question marks over whether he can ever rediscover peak performance levels, it's worth remembering just how exceptional those performance levels were, and could still be. This is an exceptional, truly world-class player –one of the very few who can move to United and be considered an upgrade on Rooney and Van Persie. A scorer of extraordinary goals as well as a great goalscorer, El Tigre will add bite to a forward line that has looked increasingly blunt lately. Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester) Leicester pulled off one of the summer's biggest coups by luring the decorated Argentine, who netted in a behind-closed-doors friendly against MK Dons in midweek. Indeed, the 34-year-old has won 15 major trophies since the Foxes were last in the top flight, and it's this experience that Nigel Pearson can call upon as his newly promoted side bid to beat the drop. Cambiasso started 32 matches en route to Inter's fifth-placed finish in Serie A last season, averaging 49 passes per game – his highest amount in three seasons – and successfully completed a healthy 164 of his attempted 225 long balls. His passing is incredibly varied, so don't expect to see a straightforward holder in action. Essentially, he's still got it. Defensively he'll prove a big asset for the Foxes, too: in 2013/14 he averaged 3.3 tackles per match (among the league's best), and 1.8 interceptions. Daley Blind (Man United) Blind's £13.8 million move to Old Trafford passed somewhat under the radar amid all the hullabaloo of Radamel Falcao's arrival from Monaco, but the versatile former Ajax man may turn out to be just as valuable an asset to Louis van Gaal in 2014/15. Able to operate as a left-sided centre-back, full-back and defensive midfielder, the 24-year-old –along with fellow recruit Marcos Rojo –will help shore up a defence that has looked vulnerable in the early stages of the season against Swansea, Sunderland and Burnley. Blind picked up the Dutch Player of the Year prize last season as Ajax won a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title before impressing in Brazil; providing the exquisite long pass for Robin van Persie's acrobatic header against Spain that United supporters will be hoping to see much more of. The son of Dutch legend Danny may also be seen screening in front of the Red Devils' back three/four as the campaign progresses, a role he fulfilled at the World Cup when Nigel de Jong was forced off after just nine minutes against Mexico. While Blind's raking balls forward reduced, he proved a reliable distributor in the middle of the park, misplacing just 7 of his 52 passes during the round of 16 success. Alex Song (West Ham) Barcelona fans might be jumping for joy at the Cameroonian's departure, but that doesn't mean West Ham fans should have their spirits dampened. Far from it, in fact – the ex-Arsenal man will provide much-needed class and creativity in the Hammers' midfield if he picks up from where he left off in the Premier League. The 26-year-old bragged passing accuracy of almost 92% in a frustrating 2013/14 campaign at Barcelona, though that was largely down to him being shackled behind the likes of Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas (when he actually played). Instead Hammers fans will be craving the Song of 2011/12, and his last season at the Emirates Stadium. He was a key contributor to Robin van Persie's 30-goal haul, weighing in with 8 assists overall, and excelled with more freedom slightly further forward. He should get that at Upton Park. Benjamin Stambouli (Tottenham) Tottenham spent much of the summer chasing French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who played with some distinction under new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino during the Argentine's 18 months as manager of Southampton. Yet, with the Hampshire side seemingly unwilling to do business, the north Londoners switched their focus to Montpellier's Stambouli. The 24-year-old is in a similar mould to Schneiderlin, reading the game well from the centre of the park and distributing the ball tidily, but is a little more forceful in the tackle. Yet, despite being a decent passer, Stambouli isn't always a big influence in the attacking third. He scored just 3 goals and served up 5 assists in 115 Ligue 1 matches with Montpellier, and generally prefers to sit deep. Spurs' defence regularly looked exposed last season, and Stambouli may just help provide the cover they sorely need. Toby Alderweireld (Southampton) Southampton completed one of the shock deals of deadline day by taking Belgium international defender Alderweireld on loan to St Mary's. The 25-year-old certainly has a point to prove, having failed to stamp his mark on La Liga during his 12 months with Atletico Madrid, who he joined from Ajax last summer. Alderweireld didn't enjoy the best of seasons in the Spanish capital, but was able to show his worth in flashes. In March's 1-0 victory over Espanyol, for example, the Belgian made 9 clearances –6 of them headed ones –in the centre of defence, while also covering the right flank by making 4 successful tackles. And therein lies another of Alderweireld's strengths –he can also play at right-back, the role he regularly fills for Belgium. During the Red Devils' World Cup last 16 victory over the United States, Alderweireld attacked with relish, attempting 6 crosses (although only 1 was successful) and making 14 passes in the attacking third. That's not to say he abandoned his defensive duties –he dropped back to make 4 clearances and 4 successful tackles. If Alderweireld finds his feet better than he did in La Liga, Dejan Lovren will not be missed on the south coast. Ricky Alvarez (Sunderland) A player repeatedly linked with Arsenal in recent years, Sunderland boss Gus Poyet will hope to get the best out of the fellow South American who has undoubted quality but struggles to show it on a consistent basis. The former Velez Sarsfield attacking midfielder eventually joined Inter Milan for €12.8 million in 2011, but his performances at San Siro have resulted in just seven caps for Argentina since. Armed with a lethal left foot and exemplary skill and vision, the 26-year-old scored 4 goals, assisted 8 others and completed 50 key passes in 29 Serie A outings in 2013/14; figures Poyet will be looking to exploit at the Stadium of Light. An ever-keen dribbler, Alvarez completed 77 take-ons in Italy's top flight last term at an average of 3 per game, and will likely look to do his damage just behind the striker. In Inter's Derby d'Italia draw with eventual champions Juventus last September, he set up 4 chances for team-mates, including the assist for Mauro Icardi's goal in the 1-1 draw. In Inter's 7-0 tonking of Sassuolo in the very next game he fired in 4 efforts on goal on top of creating 3 chances for others, running his opponents' backline ragged with 8/11 successful take-ons.

Welbeck proves Arsenal credentials by getting injured

New Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck has underlined his commitment to the club's ethos by immediately sustaining an ankle injury. The deadline-day signing of Welbeck was criticised by some Arsenal fans, with many asking if the £16 million square peg was the solution to the club's longstanding round-hole problem. But their fears that Welbeck represented a change of identity appear groundless, after the 23-year-old demonstrated his commitment to the 'Wenger way' by turning his ankle in his first training session as an Arsenal player. "I'm delighted to have opened my injury account, but I hope this ankle strain is only the start," the England ace told FourFourTwo. "I'm looking forward to picking up even more knocks, pulls, sprains, and twinges, so this is the ideal club for me." Welbeck added that since becoming an Arsenal player, his travel insurance premiums seem to have shot up, and that he has found himself noticing far more black cats than before, whether he's socialising, relaxing at home, or going for walks under ladders. Manager Arsene Wenger said: "Danny's been inconsistent with injuries in the past, but from now we will make sure his injuries are regular and routine. He will slot in perfectly alongside Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott on the treatment table. UEFA coaching ambassador Ferguson is keen to stamp out simulation, which he described as a 'disease' in football. And Ferguson, who is hosting UEFA's annual managers' meeting in Nyon, said the potential introduction ofa 'sin bin' was being discussed by the governing body. "We couldn't get to an agreement about it because it's such a controversial decision to change from what we know to a sin bin, but there was a good discussion about it," Ferguson said. "From UEFA's point of view, it's something that they're looking at. "It has some merits - in particular simulation by a player which has become a disease within the game." Ferguson also offered his view on the extravagant spending from English clubs in the recently completed transfer window. Premier League outfits splashed the cash, spending a reported £830million on signing players, with Ferguson's old club the primary spenders. In a bid to return to former glories, United spent an estimated £150million on bringing inAngel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao. Ferguson was a vocal critic of Manchester City's spending sprees in the past but declined to criticise his former club. "My own personal opinion is that it's never going to change," he added. "The world's progressing all the time, with transfer fees keeping up with it. "I don't know if there's an end to it, fortunately I'm not in the hub of that now, but it's an amazing number, the amount spent now."

Man United recruit Rojo finally granted visa

Argentina defender Rojo was confirmed as a United player last monthin a move that saw winger Nani rejoin Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season. However, Rojo was unable to feature for his newclub prior to the international break, with manager Louis van Gaal expressing his surprise at the delay. A statement from United on Thursday read: "The UK Border Agency has agreed to grant new Manchester United signing Marcos Rojo a visa and the defender will therefore be available for the Reds' next game against QPR on September 14. "Rojo completed his move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon on August 20 but the requirement to obtain a visa has thus far prevented the 24-year-old from making his debut. "There was no such delay for fellow Argentinian arrival Angel Di Maria, who already has an Italian passport as one of his grandparents is from Italy." Rojo is one of six new faces to have been brought to the club by Van Gaal, along with Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao. A left-sided player who can feature at either centre-back or left-back, it remains to be seen where Rojo will be deployed by Van Gaal as the Dutchman continues to try and find a system which best suits his players. The arrival of Blind from Ajax on transfer deadline day, as well as that of Rojo, looks to have gone some way to addressing some of United's frailties, and the club's fanscould see the Argentinian in Premier Leagueaction at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.

Ronaldo has taken his game to another level since joining the European champions and has no intention of leaving Santiago Bernabeu for the time being. Rooney: England were sloppy against Norway

Roy Hodgson's men were in action for the first time since their winless World Cup campaign in Brazil, and they were unconvincing in London - a Rooney penalty with 22 minutes remaining splitting the sides. The Manchester United striker, who came off shortly after scoring for now-former club team-mate Danny Welbeck, said England had plenty of scope for improvement. "I thought I could have done better – we all could have done better," Rooney told ITV Sport. "It's the first game after the World Cup and it was important that we got the win tonight, especially going into the game on Monday. "In the first half we moved quite well but they made it difficult for us; sat back and created a few opportunities. "In the second half we started really sloppily and that was disappointing, as we wanted to go out and really take the game to them. "We got the win in the end and there are a lot of young players in this team. They are still learning." England open their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign against Switzerland in Basel on Monday.

The friendly victory - which came courtesy of strikes from Sergio Aguero,Erik Lamela and Federico Fernandez,as well as Di Maria's 50th-minute chip -ultimately did little to erase the painful memories of the South Americans' World Cup final defeat to the same opponents back in July, but it did at least provide a stage for the 26-year-oldto showcase his considerable talent.
