It is the 50th anniversary of the programme, and the start of a brave new world without Alan Hansen. Five pundits line up around Gary Lineker, with facial expressions ranging from grinning loon (Robbie Savage) to wry and wise (Danny Murphy). Forget the props Murphy wielding a microphone, Alan Shearer in a V-neck, Rio Ferdinand's untucked shirt and focus on the details. These are men who live by the phrase "smart casual". That means slacks, a shirt and crucial, this buttons undone at the neck.
