Herrera: I grew up watching Cantona Posted: 24 Jul 2014 05:42 AM PDT Ander Herrera, who has described his move to Manchester United as a dream come true, has reflected on his heroes when he was growing up. Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are amongst the United legends that he has looked up to. "You always see the best players in the world and I always watched Eric Cantona, Zinedine Zidane and, while he was at Real Zaragoza, Gustavo Poyet, who is now the Sunderland coach," Ander told MUTV. "Now, maybe my mirror is Andres Iniesta, not only for football and what he does on the pitch but also because he is a good person. I wish, one day, I could be similar to him.” Expanding on his love for Cantona, Herrera continued: "I liked his character, he was a winner and always worked hard, he never lost one ball and was always thinking about the victory. This group of players [at United] has those same characteristics. We always want to win, we want to play well for the Man United supporters and Eric Cantona had those characteristics. Of course, he had personality too. But it was not only Cantona who had personality; Ryan Giggs as well, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. United do not only sign good players, but workers as well. United sign people who work hard, train hard and who are good professionals. It is a dream for me to be here because this history is very big and now I have the chance to play here. I have the possibility to show my own character for United." ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. Mata: I know Herrera well and he will be great Posted: 24 Jul 2014 05:23 AM PDT Ander Herrera was voted Man of the Match for his performance in United’s 7-0 win over LA Galaxy last night. Juan Mata, who played with Herrera for Spain at youth level, has sung the praises of his new United team mate. “He did great,” Juan told ManUtd.com. “I know him very well from our days with the Spanish national youth teams and he was very good tonight. I am very happy for him. We have a good connection on and off the pitch and I think he will give us a lot of good things this season.” United couldn’t have hoped for a better scoreline in their first attempt to play Louis van Gaal’s 3-5-2 formation. Mata is pleased with how much progress his team mates have made together despite only have a few days training following the World Cup. “We are all pleased with the result but we know this is just the first step,” he added. "Some of the players have only been training for three or four days so we have more improvements to come, both physically and tactically. But I think we had a good understanding of the new system and the football the manager wanted us to play. It was a good game for us. The manager wants us to play quickly with the ball in the middle, try to look for options and also play with width as well. That's what we'll keep trying to do." ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. LvG explains United’s new tactics Posted: 24 Jul 2014 04:00 AM PDT Louis van Gaal tried out a 3-5-2 formation last night in Manchester United’s 7-0 win over LA Galaxy. Given the amount of quality attacking players United have, the manager wants to make the best use of them, and believes that the 3-5-2 is the best way to do this. Having worked hard on the formation in training all week, which was demonstrated by the huge scoreline and United’s second half line-up, almost entirely different from the first, employing the same tactics. Van Gaal says that he will keep the new formation for as long as it works, but will revert to 4-3-3 if needs by. "When you want to change a system, you must start at once," he said. "We don't have time to prepare for other things. The other system they can play is 4-3-3 and they have played it for many years. I can change it back if it doesn't work. With the quality of the players we have, I can play 4-3-3 with three strikers on the bench, but I want to play with two strikers. We have four number 10s, so the selection is not balanced in my eyes. I have decided to play this system because of the quality of the players. But if we lose, I can change back to another system." ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. Herrera: Playing in the red shirt was a dream come true Posted: 24 Jul 2014 03:45 AM PDT Following United’s 7-0 win over LA Galaxy in the opening game of the pre-season, Ander Herrera, who was voted man of the match, has spoken about his debut. “It was a dream for me to play in the red shirt – I will keep this shirt with me always,” he told the official site. “I hope this is the start of a lot of games for United. It wasn’t only me in this game though, I think the whole team enjoyed the game and did well. It’s the first match and we have done good things. It’s a good step and we’re very happy. The manager said to us afterwards that he was pleased with the game and a good performance but he wants us to keep improving. We have to keep working hard. 7-0 is a great score but it's a friendly game. It's important for us to start with a win like this and it will help us keep improving.” ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. LvG: Beautiful goals and beautiful attacks Posted: 24 Jul 2014 03:25 AM PDT Louis van Gaal has sung the praises of his new team who managed an impressive 7-0 win over LA Galaxy last night. The Dutch manager has been working the players hard in training and is delighted to see all that effort pay off. "It is fantastic how they have performed today," van Gaal said. "When you see us train, you can expect something but not 7-0. It was a surprise, but they were beautiful goals and beautiful attacks. The result always matters. With such a result you get confidence. We introduced a new system and played twice on the training pitch, 11 v 11. It is not very much, but the boys are willing to pick up the information. Last week, 10 players who played tonight were not even at our training complex. When I see my team playing a new system, it is better to win 7-0 than to lose because the players will then doubt the system. But now I don't have that problem." ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview.
