United youngster is a wanted man Posted: 21 Jun 2014 12:04 AM PDT
United signed the 21-year-old for £15m in January 2013, beating Arsenal in the race to the player many considered one of English football’s hottest property, before allowing Zaha to remain at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the season, one which ended with Palace promoted to the Premier League thanks also to his eight goals and 10 assists.
However, after moving to Old Trafford last summer, Zaha failed to replicate the form that had earned him an England debut and managed only two league appearances for United, as well as cameo in the 2-0 win over Wigan in the Community Shield, before being loaned out to Cardiff in January. In South Wales Zaha made 12 appearances but started a mere three games as the Bluebirds were relegated but that won’t stop Palace from enquiring about their former starlet, claims the Daily Mail. With Pulis delivering a minor miracle in steering the South Londoners to safety last season after Palace had looked doomed when the former Stoke manager was appointed, the Welshman is keen to bolster his squad and might try to bring Zaha back to Selhurst Park, though whether on loan or otherwise remains to be seen. Louis Van Gaal’s reputation for developing young players suggests United might want to hang on to Zaha, particularly as they’d otherwise face making a substantial loss on the £15 they shelled out less than two years ago. |

Earlier this week, the Telegraph reported that the 28-year-old had agreed a deal in principle with United to move to Old Trafford in the summer, as United and Arsenal were expected to sit down in an attempt to reach an agreement for the transfer of the Belgium international, whose contract at the Emirates runs out in 12 months.
With Nemanja Vidic moving to Inter Milan on a free transfer and Rio Ferdinand leaving Old Trafford after 12 years, United are in desperate need of a centre-back and Vermaelen was thought to be on Louis Van Gaal’s radar, but the Belgian has now denied he’s looking to leave North London, let alone that a deal with United had been agreed. “I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it’s not true,” Vermaelen told Sky Sports. “Everybody understands my situation at Arsenal and that I have one year left. “I understand that people are going to talk but I am here in Brazil and I am enjoying my time and I’m focused on what I am doing.” “We talk a lot when I am at Arsenal but it’s not what I am going to discuss here, it is something you are going to have to ask him.” |
