Van Gaal: United are the biggest club in the world and I would love to manage them

Posted: 07 May 2014 11:02 AM PDT

Louis van Gaal has given an interview with the BBC this evening where he claims United are the biggest club in the world and he would like to become our manager. United aren’t expected to confirm the appointment until the season has ended though.

“I would love the job,” said Van Gaal. “I hope that I shall be the one. It’s the biggest club in the world and it’s a fantastic challenge. You (the media) are thinking I’m the man but the most important thing is whether Manchester United are thinking that. You have to wait and see what the club decides. It’s always the same – it’s always a process and you have to wait for the process, the press are always too fast.”

Vidic: My heart will always be at United

Nemanja Vidic gave a moving speech at the end of United’s 3-1 win over Hull last night.

Having completed the lap of honour, Vidic took to the mic in front of the Stretford End and thanked the fans for all the support they had given him.

After the game, Vidic revealed that United will always be in his heart.

“Physically I will leave but my heart will always be at this club. I’ve spent so many years here,” said Vidic. “I’ve worked with so many great people and will always watch and care about United. It was a tough season. It has been a tough night – it was very emotional.”

Vidic has no doubts we will be able to buy a top player to replace him and that the club will return to where it’s supposed to be next season.

“A lot of players leave the club and a lot come here,” he added. “United will always be the same and will always attract good, big name players. I don’t think it will be any different when the transfer market starts.”

Van Persie: Vidic wants to die for the cause

Robin van Persie has sung the praises of captain Nemanja Vidic, who made his last appearance for United at Old Trafford last night.

"Nemanja has been great," Van Persie told MUTV. "He's been playing here for eight-and-a-half years and the thing I always say about him is that he puts his head where people are scared to put their feet! That is Nemanja. He wants to die for the cause, in a good way. He is very brave, a great player and he's won everything at Manchester United. It was a special day for him too."

VIDEO: Hull player stamps on Januzaj

Posted: 07 May 2014 01:15 AM PDT

During last night’s 3-1 victory over Hull, Adnan Januzaj was the victim of a nasty stamp by David Meyler.

Januzaj rolled down his sock to show the referee the damage that had been done, but a freekick was awarded in Hull’s favour instead.

This is the second time Januzaj has been stamped on. In November, Fulham’s Sascha Riether was banned for three matches after accepting a FA charge of violent conduct.

Giggs says our player’s leg is in a mess and that the referees need to protect him.

“I didn’t see it but I’ve seen his leg,” he said. “It’s the second time it has happened to him this season. It’s not great to see, and it’s terrible his leg. He needs protecting. He’s a brilliant, exciting player and the authorities need to sort it out. It’s just the length of his leg, not cutting into his skin. It goes form his knee to his ankle.”

Giggs: You have to give young players a chance

In what was probably Ryan Giggs’ last game at Old Trafford as interim manager and player, he made the decision to start 18-year-old James Wilson and 20-year-old Tom Lawrence.

"He's a goalscorer – a natural goalscorer; but he's got more to his game than just that," said Giggs. "He can turn and run and he's a very clever player. I was delighted for him that he got two goals and I think he wanted to stay on for his hat-trick when I took him off."

Giggs, who also gave a debut to Tom Lawrence, added: "I wanted to freshen things up after Saturday's defeat to Sunderland and if you give young players a chance, they will take it. They didn't disappoint and I was proud to see that."

Robin van Persie was also impressed with Wilson’s debut.

"James played really well," he told MUTV. "I know how hard it is to make your [United] debut – I made mine when I was about 29! I know how special it can be. He made it very special for himself and for everyone tonight. To score two goals is really special."

Van Persie: Giggs is Sir Alex-esque

Posted: 07 May 2014 12:45 AM PDT

Robin van Persie has sung the praises of interim boss Ryan Giggs, claiming that the talks he gives the players are on a level with Sir Alex Ferguson’s.

"I witnessed two team meetings as I came in a bit late,” Van Persie told MUTV. “The one from the last game against Sunderland, and today's game, were incredible. They were Sir Alex-esque. He's been brilliant and I think he came on without even warming up tonight! Am I correct? He came on without a warm-up, put in some fantastic passes and almost scored. He's a legend and I think he shows that every day."
