Klopp: United are great but there’s been no contact

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 01:09 PM PDT

Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly been linked with a move to Manchester United to replace the sacked David Moyes, but has today claimed it’s embarrassing to discuss such a thing when the club hasn’t even approached him.

“I really do think that Manchester United is a great club, but it is also the case that as long as things continue to go as they are here, then I have a clear agreement with Borussia Dortmund,” he said. “Therefore it cannot have anything to do with the greatness of a team, even if there were to be an offer. And to react to this is a bit uncomfortable when there has not been an offer, so to reject it before an offer comes is personally embarrassing for me. I think Man U is great, but I am still really happy here because there are around 1,000 reasons why I really like working at this club. The only condition which must be filled, and it is more important than contracts, is that all of those involved have to have the feeling that I am the right coach for this team. As long as that is the case, I don’t have to think about anything.”

Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Fulham currently make up the top four in the table, although City could replace Fulham on goal difference.

James Wilson scored his 8th goal of the season in the first half which was a lead United took in to the second half.

Reading then equalised in the second half before going 2-1 up with ten minutes left to play. A few minutes later, James Weir then equalised for United after a mistake from the keeper.

There were then three minutes of injury time and in the very final seconds, defender Patrick McNair scored a great goal from the outside of the box to win the game for United.

Evans: I grew up supporting Fergie’s teams

Jonny Evans has talked about how it feels to be a Manchester United fan playing for the club.

Having first been spotted by United when he was 9-years-old and having a room covered in United posters, Evans talks about the responsibility he feels every time he wears the shirt.

“When you look back at the players who have represented Manchester United, some great players, that drives you to want to be mentioned in the same bracket,” he told the official site. “Also, being part of good teams helps. I grew up watching the teams that Sir Alex Ferguson built over the years, so to be a part of that was a great feeling. It’s also about winning trophies because it’s winning things that goes down in history. You feel the responsibility of playing for United every time you pull on the shirt. It’s kind of strange because you grow up as a fan but, as soon as you become a player, you kind of feel on the other side of it. You are representing the club on the pitch; you’re still a fan but it’s from a totally different perspective. You’ve got to try to make the fans happy as well as the manager and do your job for the club. As a footballer, though, the day you retire, I think you go back to being a fan like everyone else.”

Butt: We’ve been here together since we were 12

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 09:10 AM PDT

This week has been fairly fantastic for Manchester United fans, with David Moyes being moved on and the Class of ’92 being brought in to coach the squad.

Nicky Butt, who has spent this season with the Reserves, has reflected on what this means to him.

“It will be massive for us, a proud moment for us all,” Butt told MUTV. “To be there together is a bit of a surreal thing. We walked in here together when we were 12 and to be here now – I’m not 40 yet but Giggsy is, and myself and Scholes are nearly there too. So for us and Phil to be there together is a very proud moment. We’re here to try to help the club and get the results that we want from now until the end of the season. What happens after that, who knows?”

Butt is looking forward to Saturday as he believes it is an opportunity for the players to show what they are capable of after a disappointing season.

“We’ve got some amazing players at this club, good lads who care about the club, who are really positive about United and want the best for the club. Saturday is a massive occasion, not only for Ryan, but for the staff, the fans and the players as well because they know that we’ve underachieved as a club this year. The players in that changing room know how good they are. They look round, look left and look right at the players next to them and know that they are very proud, hard-working lads. I’m sure we’ll see that on Saturday.”

Evans: Hard to put in to words what United means to me

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Jonny Evans is a lifelong Manchester United fan and as a kid was fairly fanatical about the club, with his bedroom kitted out in United stuff.

“My first recollections of Manchester United would be going way back, probably in my granny’s house having these little figures of United players,” he told the official site. “Even before that, I got a United poster for Christmas when I was five years old. My bedroom was all done out in Manchester United stuff: bed covers, posters… so it goes back to when I was just a kid.”

Evans was first spotted by United when he was 9-years-old but it was a long process from there to actually joining the club.

“When I was nine years old, a scout had come over to watch me play in Northern Ireland and asked me if I wanted to join the Manchester United centre of excellence. So, for me, that was a massive thing,” he said. “Even though I was only nine and I was getting really excited. He was telling me that there’s still so much to go. Then, when I was maybe 10, I made my first trip to Manchester. I travelled over on every school holiday and it was great at the time. I moved across with my family when I was 15 and I think that was the start of it, when I moved to England. It’s been 11 years now, it’s been a long experience but it feels like yesterday.”

When asked, in summary, what the club meant to him, Evans struggled to find the words to explain.

“It’s hard to put into words exactly what Manchester United means to me,” he added. “From a young age, I was fanatical about United and I used to cry when the team lost. That’s how much it meant as a kid. Now I feel really privileged to pull on the shirt and go out there and try to make a difference and represent the fans on the pitch.”
