Moyes targets improvements in bigger games

United have only picked up one win against the six sides above them in the Premier League this season, their sole success coming in a 1-0 triumph over Arsenal in November, and Moyes knows that record is a big factor in the club struggling to challenge the top four. Recent victories over Olympiacos and West Ham have given United a much-needed lift, with the first of those wins securing qualification for the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. However, Moyes acknowledges there is still plenty of room for improvement as his side aim to prevent Manchester City from claiming a third consecutive derby win when the two sides meet at Old Trafford. Were not as far away as many people would have us and Ive no doubt itll improve, said the manager. We want to show were still in there fighting. We want to perform better in the bigger games than we have done, I have no doubt about that. Itll be important to show the level of what weve got and I think we have got the level. Well do everything we possibly can. We go out to win every game not just the derby. Its no different. Obviously it means a lot more to the supporters and the city to win a derby game, but we go into every game with the same intention to win. In the last couple of games, a lot of the players have stepped up to the plate and performed. But Im not surprised by that at all thats what theyre capable of and Ive been saying that all year. We have a good squad with good players we maybe havent played as well as we should have, but I think we have those capabilities within the squad.

FIFA glitches in real life

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 07:26 AM PDT

Sissoko's no-look header Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko certainly wouldn't be the first player to head the ball with his eye closed, but not many player can have nodded one away while looking in completely the opposite direction. That's just SO unrealistic... Chelsea are broken This is just weird (watch Hazard and Mata)... Chelsea are broken 2 Look, just stop the weirdness... Sol Campbell's never-ending tackle No, not like that. The former Notts County defender must have feared for his life during England's infamous Wembley defeat to Croatia in 2007. The same downpour that saw Steve McClaren reach for his brolly also caused the former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to slide on his ample rump for about seven minutes... CR7 takes to the skies While Sol Campbell spent an age on the deck, Cristiano Ronaldo got some gnarly hang-time in Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Manchester United in 2012/13... Heads up! Another header - this time from Bayern Munich's 1975 European Cup semi-final second leg against St Etienne. Witness both the wall jumping ludicrously early, and the defender heading the ball freakishly high into the Munich sky. Van der Vaart's brain faart Questionable AI has been a problem that has plagued football games since the dawn of time. Rafael van der Vaart strikes FFT as quite an intelligent footballer (he left Tottenham at the right time, let's face it), but we're not quite sure what he was thinking here... Man (and man and man) to man marking Here's another bout of dodgy AI, as four defenders all brainlessly chase one player (Brazilian playmaker Denilson)... KEEEEEEEPER'S!!! Yeah, you've got it covered mate... Getting the runaround Ever had a smug mate take the Michael by bringing his keeper out and taking on half your team? This eerily grainy video will haunt your dreams... Chris Wood has some neck on him This is really the kind of thing that only happens in a video game. Or in this case, in real life...

Title is in Man Citys hands, says Zabaleta

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 04:57 AM PDT

City have three games in hand on leaders Chelsea, who they currently trail by six points. Manuel Pellegrini's men therefore have control of their own fate as they seek a second title in three seasons. Zabaleta hopes City, who are no longer involved in the FA Cup or UEFA Champions League, can maintain the form that saw Fulham condemned to a 5-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. "We just need to keep focused on what we are doing now," he told Sky Sports. "We need to try to win every game but everything is in our hands. "We don't have an excuse now. We only have Premier League games and we have time to recover well between the games. "We know it is going to be very tough until the end but we have a great team. We have enough belief to win this title. "Everything depends on us. Hopefully we can celebrate something at the end of the season." City face neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday and the Argentina international knows just how significant a derby victory would be. "We know how important it is to win the game for the players, the fans, the club," Zabaleta added. "That is why we need to go there and try to win the game. "It doesn't matter the situation of United (who sit seventh), the game is special for both teams."

Carrick keen to repay United fans against City

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 03:46 AM PDT

United's inconsistent form this season has seen them fall out of the running for the Premier League title, although they have made it to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. A 3-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford earlier this month represented the latest setback for David Moyes' seventh-placed side. Yet Carrick has outlined a desire to make amends with victory when neighbours Manchester City, who remain firmly in the hunt for top spot, visit on Tuesday. "It was a bad day against Liverpool," the 32-year-old told United's official website. "We suffered just as much as the fans. It's horrible after a game like that. We're well aware of what those games mean to everyone and, believe me, it means the same to the players. "I've been part of this club for a long time now and you know what means a lot. This is certainly one of those matches. "It's a one-off game against your local rivals and in a derby you always want to come out on top. "It's not going to repair any of the damage that's been done in recent months… but we understand the fans and the result they want, and for us as players it's exactly the same."

Allardyce: Rooney goal should not have stood

Posted: 22 Mar 2014 02:23 PM PDT

Rooney netted a double to help the reigning Premier League champions to victory at Upton Park on Saturday, with his first goal grabbing all the headlines. He hit an audacious half-volley from just inside the opposition half that looped over stranded West Ham goalkeeper Adrian to open the scoring in the eighth minute. The England international's strike will surely be considered a goal-of-the-season contender, but whileAllardyce could not deny the technical quality of Rooney's strike, he felt that referee Lee Mason should have awarded a foul in the build-up after James Tomkins was impeded. "It was such a wonderful goal from Wayne Rooney early on," said the West Ham boss. "No one expected him to do that, not even David Moyes. But when he did it, it was brilliant "(But it) was a bit of sickener. I thought it was a blatant foul on James Tomkins, who is easily going to head the ball away. Wayne took him off his balance when he jumped, so he missed the header. "Technically, in end the referee has made a big error as far as I'm concerned because the opposition has scored from that." Allardyce also insisted that his side could have had a penalty for what he believed was a foul by Darren Fletcher on Kevin Nolan towards the end of the first half. To add insult to injury, Manchester United's second goal came direct from the resulting counter-attack, as Rooney capitalised on Mark Noble's miscued clearance to side foot home. Allardyce added: "We pushed and tried to get back into the game, and the game changes in split seconds. "We could have had a penalty - the ball's come into the box, Kevin's looking to strike the ball at goal, Fletcher gets across him then they go right up the other end and Mark Noble mis-kicks his clearance and it goes to Wayne Rooney. "So what could have been 1-1 turned out to be 2-0. It was a shame, it was defining moments that decide it, it went in their favour."
