Moyes: Januzaj

Posted: 11 Jan 2014 02:08 PM PST

David Moyes has sung the praises of Adnan Januzaj following our 2-0 victory over Swansea earlier this evening.

“Everybody can see what a player we have on our hands,” said Moyes. “He can play all the positions [up front]. He played behind the striker for most of the game at Sunderland and we thought he was terrific there so we started him there today. We were hoping he might have created just a little more for us, maybe crafted a few more opportunities, but at half-time I swapped him to the left wing and it made a big difference. I speak to him a lot and he tells me he’d have no problem playing anywhere. He’s not a nervous boy. He needs teaching and understanding because he’s still learning the game in a lot of things he’s doing but his natural talent and ability is up there with the best and I think in time he will be that.”

Van Persie out for 6 weeks?

Posted: 11 Jan 2014 05:14 AM PST

In David Moyes’ press conference yesterday he confirmed that Robin van Persie had returned to Holland to work on his thigh injury.

Last night on Twitter, someone edited a journalists tweet to say that Van Persie could be out until March, and this rumour quickly spread. Some of the papers this morning are now suggesting, similarly, that he could be out for six weeks.

Moyes is apparently fairly self conscious about Van Persie’s injury, given that he has been repeatedly blamed for supposedly mismanaging the Dutchman’s fitness, and was fairly defensive of the situation.

“We're trying to get Robin back,” stated Moyes. “He's got a thigh strain similar to the one he had at Arsenal [in the second half of the 2007/2008 season]. He never had an injury all last season. He took a corner against Shakhtar and felt his thigh so it was a freak thing really and not [aggravating] an injury he'd had before. It’s a different injury. We have to manage it correctly and he's been to Holland to see a guy he works with there. So we're doing everything we can to give him the right treatment and get him back as soon as we possibly can. But I don't want to put a date on his return.”

Moyes: I have no problem with Fergie presence

Following Manchester United’s dreadful campaign, there have been some suggestions that David Moyes is struggling under the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson.

With a Sir Alex Ferguson Way around the corner from the ground and a Sir Alex Ferguson stand in the stadium, it’s impossible to ignore that our former manager will always be a presence for any manager that follows. You don’t have the success he’s enjoyed without leaving your mark on the club.

However, he is in the stands for most games as a director, which some people have criticised. Undoubtedly, the same people would criticise Ferguson if he stopped attending, claiming that he was deserting Moyes and the club.

Moyes has responded to the people slating Ferguson and claimed that he has been incredibly supportive since he took over.

“It tells you that people don’t know me and don’t know Sir Alex,” Moyes told MUTV. “People are saying it because they have no idea about how it works. Sir Alex has been fantastic. He has been incredibly supportive and is only there to help me. I have a conversation with him when I need it and I tend to see him for a minute or two after the games. I have found him great and it has been the same with Sir Bobby Charlton and Bryan Robson. All the people around the club have been great as have all the former players, in the main. But there are a lot of people out there who are trying to twist the words or make out it is a problem. I have no problem with it at all.”
