PNev: I cried my eyes out when I left United Posted: 03 Dec 2013 01:33 PM PST In an interview with The Guardian, Phil reflects on the day Sir Alex Ferguson invited him round to his house to tell him that it was time for him to move on. Of course, the manager was right, with Phil thriving at Everton and becoming captain, but that didn’t change how disappointed he was to be leaving the club he loved. “Inside – and this is the weird thing – it was probably one of the most magical moments of my career,” Neville says. “We were in his front room, having a cup of tea and he was plotting my next career move, where I was going, how I would play, everything. I went outside and my wife was in tears. But it wasn’t done in a cold office. It was done with warmth, like going round to your Mum and Dad’s for some advice.” He pauses. “But don’t get me wrong, I went home and cried my eyes out for 24 hours.” |
COMPETITION: Create a new United chant Posted: 03 Dec 2013 01:00 AM PST Have you ever conjured up a United-inspired ditty which you’re sure could catch on with the thousands that occupy the Stretford End? Something perhaps about a player, a legend, the manager, the team, the club’s history or even an opposing side. Well, you’re not alone. Reds globally dream of having their chant reverberate around the Theatre of Dreams. Have you ever wanted to have one of your chants immortalised in MUFC folklore, but never been sure how to go about it? Well maybe now is your chance. Following on from Jonathan Shrager’s 3-part interview with MUFC eminent chant composer/conductor Pete Boyle, here is an opportunity to gain your idea some great exposure amongst fellow supporters. In Part 2 of the interview Pete elaborated upon the criteria he follows for producing MUFC anthems; essentially a combination of originality, creativity, and catchiness. Please send your original song entries to jonathan.shrager@gmail.com for Pete Boyle's consideration. Entries are to be submitted by no later than Monday 16th December. The best one will feature on Pete's next studio CD, with the winning entrant being invited to sing-along at the recording. |
