Tottenham must bounce back, says Dawson

Posted: 30 Nov 2013 07:45 AM PST

The White Hart Lane club host Manchester United on Sunday and will be looking to record a first win in four in the Premier League. And Dawson knows the importance of erasing last weeks nightmare trip to the Etihad Stadium - which saw Spurs a goal down in the first minute - from memory. Playing against Man United, theyre a top team - top attackers - so were going to have to be prepared better than we were last week and perform better than we did, but thats gone, he said. In the nine years since Ive been here, Ive never had a game like that, so thats history now and we look forward. Its always special whenever Manchester United come to the Lane. Its a game where we want to respond from what happened last week to bounce back. The 30,000 fans cheering us on will be a massive boost. The 30-year-old is confident Andre Villas-Boas men can turn things around, and praised the positive atmosphere in the squad. Two months ago, or six weeks, everyone was raving about how well wed gelled, its amazing what one result seems to turns peoples opinions, he continued. Weve got a fantastic squad in that dressing room, great players. The boys that have come in are fantastic lads. We want to be successful as a full squad and we have to do that. Things dont always go like we want them to and last week didnt, but we stay strong. Mentally were all together and we know what our aim is, come the end of the season to be in the top four and hopefully we can bring some silverware back. Dawson has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season.

Moyes insists hes happy with Rooney fitness

Posted: 30 Nov 2013 01:43 AM PST

Rooney has made 15 appearances for United this season – scoring eight goals – but Moyes is aware that the 28-year-old may need to recuperate given United's hectic schedule. The striker has struggled with knee and hamstring problems in recent seasons, and as United battle in four competitions, the Scot acknowledged there may be times when he has to sit games out. "There will be times when we do have to try and look after him," Moyes said. "At the moment he doesn't need it. "I look for any signs of a dip. If I saw them, I would probably look to do so (leave him out). "It doesn't need to be just now. A lot of other clubs are playing their players continuously. "We can rotate but I will wait. If it doesn't come around and I don't need to, I won't do it." Former United manager Alex Ferguson suggested in his recent autobiography that Rooney was better at maintaining his fitness through playing games and that rest was not good for him, and Moyes agrees. "He is a boy who continually gets better in the games he plays," he added. "The point I am making is that I want to keep him playing as well as he is doing. "If he keeps doing it I don't need to worry."

Gerrard: United offered me a seven-year deal

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 10:48 PM PST

Ferguson, who retired as United manager this year after 27 seasons in the job, has taunted Gerrard in his recently released book, entitled My Biography, claiming the 33-year-old was 'not a top, top player'. But Gerrard, widely regarded as one of the greatest ever English Premier League players, contradicted Ferguson's sentiment by revealing Ferguson had approached him on more than one occasion. "I had a letter off them, wanting to sign me on a seven-year deal when I was 13 years of age," Gerrard said. "Then he tried to sign me again in early 2002/03. I obviously refused, so I can't really take it to heart too much. "I was genuinely a little bit gutted when I read his comments, when he said I wasn't a top, top player. "But I won't lose sleep over it - everyone is entitled to their opinion. "I'm a huge fan of Alex Ferguson and what he's done in the game is fantastic, that's the reason why he sold that many copies in the first week." Gerrard, who has played 453 league games for the Merseyside giants, maintained he was never tempted to link up with Ferguson at Old Trafford. But the Liverpool and England captain admitted he considered joining Chelsea after being sounded out by Jose Mourinho when the Portuguese manager first arrived at Stamford Bridge. "It did turn my head, because big things were happening at Chelsea," he said. "They were spending huge amounts of money and, at Liverpool at the time, we were struggling and my relationship with (Rafa) Benitez was a bit up and down." Gerrard has won a Champions League title, FA Cups, League Cups and a UEFA Cup but the one glaring omission from his glittering trophy cabinet is an elusive English premiership. But the veteran is not giving up hope on finally clinching a Premier League title with his beloved Liverpool experiencing a renaissance under Brendan Rodgers. "There's none bigger than the Premier League and that's the one that eludes me," Gerrard said. "But I'd love to be in the position we're in now with 10 games to play. That would be a dream for me."
