Pardew keen to bring in Zaha on loan deal

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 09:39 AM PST

Zaha has only made two appearances from the substitutes' bench in the Premier League since completing a permanent move to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace at the end of last season. Newcastle are one of several English top-flight clubs to be linked with a loan move for Zaha, but United boss David Moyes this week revealed he had not received any interest in the England Under-21 international. However, Pardew on Thursday confirmed his interest in taking the 21-year-old to St James' Park during the January transfer window. "He's a Manchester United player as far as I'm concerned," he said. "He's a player I know well. He played for my old team (Palace). "He was absolutely phenomenal when they got promoted, and he got a big move to Manchester United. "Unfortunately, his career has stalled, but if an opportunity arises, we'll grasp it. "If not, we won't." Pardew has also set his sights on securing a place in the UEFA Europa League next season, although he knows from experience that it is not easy to combine an assault on Europe with the demands of the Premier League. "The Europa League causes massive problems for Premier League teams," he said. "Swansea and Tottenham are feeling that. "The demands of the Premier League are much greater than other leagues. It's something we're wary of, but we're chasing a European spot."

The FourFourTwo Preview: Man United vs West Ham

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 08:04 AM PST

Billed as "The end of the world!"… or a slight shrug of the shoulders. The lowdown Poor form. Injured players. Lowly league position. "You're getting sacked in the morning" on the lips of your own fans. David Moyes and Sam Allardyce have much in common this weekend. What they certainly don't have in common is the fallout from Saturday's result. If West Ham win, Moyes will be staring down the barrel of a very difficult conversation with the Manchester United big wigs while Big Sam will buy himself all kinds of time to fix things in the January transfer window. If United win, everyone will just shrug and pop down the pub. Past away performances by West Ham this season will reveal the Irons' gameplan for Moyes. The Hammers will sit deep and park the bus, throwing in heroic last-ditch tackles and blocks in an (almost certainly) vain effort to keep United at bay. The home side will need to show patience – both on the pitch and from the stands – to prevent any panicky shooting from 40 yards and wobbly defending. West Ham's main attacking 'threat' Modibo Maiga was ignoring the goalmouth like a gobby, pissed uncle on Christmas Day before his salmon-like winner at Spurs in the League Cup, while Carlton Cole's propensity for bringing his 50p feet to the party continues. Allardyce may well tell them all to bugger off and go striker-less again. Moyes will need experience out on the pitch, so Ryan Giggs is an obvious choice to sit in the middle of the park and keep everything nice and calm. The welcome return of Darren Fletcher gives the gaffer an option of putting one of the game's great students into the mix to help pull apart what resistance the Irons can muster. Team news Moyes needed to lose Robin van Persie to injury like he needed a hole in the head. Danny Welbeck is a capable striker, but his lack of experience may play into the hands of Allardyce's plans to frustrate. West Ham continue to lose players to injury and suspension like it's a hobby. Andy Carroll – the answer to almost every question about West Ham at the moment – is taking the slowly-but-surely approach to rehab. Player to watch: Ravel Morrison (West Ham) Unfinished business? We'd say so. Unable to keep the Ravel-a-thon on the straight and narrow at Old Trafford, Fergie shipped Morrison out to West Ham where he was kept under wraps until his temperament and a lack of creativity in the first team afforded him the opportunity this season. Saturday will be an opportunity to show United what they lost… which could go really well or really badly depending on how well Moyes' men marshal West Ham's midfield. Two contrasting away days for West Ham showed less may be more where Morrison is concerned. It seems oddly counter-intuitive to use your side's most creative player sparingly, but that approach was certainly effective against Tottenham. That was the famous Sam "Allardycé" game though, where West Ham's gaffer revelled in the media's surprise at his striker-less approach. It was a tactic that forced possession back to Spurs again and again, hence the lack of time on the ball for Morrison. Saturday could be similar. The managers "Bring on the January transfer window!" must be the cry of both men as they stare into the shaving mirror every morning. Wading in with new signings won't fix everything though, and they both know it. As far as this weekend goes, (as mentioned) Allardyce will be the far more relaxed of the two managers, with only the most optimistic West Ham fan thinking they'll get three points out of this game. Should the unthinkable happen and West Ham go a goal up, Moyes will cut a forlorn figure in that technical area. Facts and figures The Hammers have failed to score in 6 of their last 8 Premier League games against Man United. Wayne Rooney has scored 7 goals in his last 6 league appearances against West Ham. Only the Britannia Stadium and KC Stadium have seen fewer goals than Old Trafford (15) this season. Man United have won each of their last 8 home games against bottom-six clubs, with 7 HT/FT double results from their last 9.| More FFT Stats Zone facts • Find the best odds with Bet Butler FourFourTwo prediction A squeaky 1-0 win for Man United thanks to a dubious penalty or splendid own goal. The FourFourTwo Preview: Man United vs West Ham

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 07:32 AM PST

The Premier League champions have lost their last two top-flight fixtures at Old Trafford 1-0 against Everton and Newcastle United. They did win their last league match, coasting to a 3-0 success at Aston Villa last week, but are 10 points behind leaders Arsenal. The Villa triumph was sandwiched by UEFA Champions League and League Cup successes against Shakhtar Donetsk and Stoke City, wins that have eased the pressure on manager David Moyes. But improvement in the Premier League is essential for Moyes, starting on Saturday, and the Scot will be sweating over the fitness of striker Wayne Rooney. The England international missed Wednesday's 2-0 win at Stoke with a groin injury and with fellow striker Robin van Persie (thigh) on the sidelines, Moyes will be counting on the former Everton man. "He has got a chance (of playing)," a hopeful said Moyes on Wednesday. Winger Ashley Young scored his first United goal since May 2012 and was named the man-of-the-match after an impressive display. "As soon as I hit it, I felt like it was going in. You could see from my celebration how much it meant to get on the scoresheet; it's been a little while," Young told MUTV afterwards. "The boys were magnificent – we showed great spirit and character and hopefully we take that into this weekend's game." Young could retain his place as a result of that performance for a United side who are hopeful of welcoming back Nemanja Vidic (knock), although an immediate return to the first team is not guaranteed for the centre-back. Marouane Fellaini (back) could also return, but fellow midfielder Michael Carrick (calf) will miss out. West Ham enter the game in good spirits after an excellent come-from-behind 2-1 League Cup quarter-final win at Tottenham on Wednesday. Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga scored in the last 10 minutes for Sam Allardyce's side as they set up a semi-final clash against Manchester City. West Ham are struggling in the Premier League though, sitting just one point above the relegation zone in 17th. The London club have won just one of their last nine league fixtures and picked up just six points from eight Premier League matches on the road. James Tomkins (groin) did not play at Tottenham and could miss out again, while strikers Andy Carroll (ankle), Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) and Mladen Petric (calf) are still on the sidelines. Also missing for West Ham are defender Winston Reid (ankle) and winger Stewart Downing (calf), as they go in search of a first win at Old Trafford since 2007.

No regrets over Napoli stay, insists Hamsik

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 03:59 AM PST

Hamsik joined the Serie A outfit from Brescia in 2007 and has reportedly rejected overtures from the likes of Manchester United and Milan to stay at the Stadio San Paolo. Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani both left Naples to join Paris Saint-Germain, but Hamsik is not planning to follow suit despite Napoli's UEFA Champions League exit. "I made this decision (to stay with Napoli) because I like the city, the people, the club and the fans," he told Il Matino. "I'm happy to be in Naples and play for Napoli. It is a decision which makes me happier day after day." Third-placed Napoli sit eight points behind leaders Juventus in the race for the Serie A title and Hamsik is hopeful the two-time Italian champions can make up that deficit. "We won a trophy in 2012, the Coppa Italia, and it was amazing," he added. "I want to win more honours to experience moments like that. "The objective for us is still the same as it was at the start of the season – we want to win something and battle for the Scudetto. "We are a bit behind in points, but we're only at mid-season. There are still plenty of games left."

Moyes: No loan offers have been made for Zaha

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 12:03 AM PST

Zaha, signed from Crystal Palace in January and immediately loaned back for the remainder of last season, has started just two games for the club – the FA Community Shield win over Wigan Athletic and a 4-0 League Cup triumph over Norwich City – and made four appearances in total for United A cluster of top-flight sides – including the likes of Palace, Newcastle United, West Ham and Aston Villa – have repeatedly been linked with Zaha as it becomes increasingly clear that he may have to leave Old Trafford in search of regular first-team action in the short term. And while Moyes is open to the idea of allowing the 21-year-old to gain experience elsewhere, the Scot claims no contact has made over a possible loan deal. "I did say to Wilf if I didn't feel he was getting enough games, I would consider it (a loan move)," Moyes told MUTV, the club's own TV channel. "Obviously if we've got injuries or other reasons, I wouldn't take it on board. "But the truth is we haven't had anybody phoning up and wanting to do that at the moment. "While it's like that, I am fine."
