Vidic released from hospital after concussion Posted: 11 Nov 2013 09:02 AM PST The former Serbia international was taken off in the fixture at Old Trafford following a collision with goalkeeper David de Gea. He was taken to hospital after the match, but the club confirmed on Monday that their captain has now returned home. "Nemanja Vidic was released from hospital on Sunday night after suffering concussion during the Barclays Premier League victory over Arsenal," the statement read. United refused to confirm whether Vidic would be available for their next Premier League clash, a visit to Cardiff City on November 24. Vidic will likely use the international break as a period of recovery, having retired from national duty - last featuring for his country in 2011. Cleverley: Man United back in the title mix Posted: 11 Nov 2013 07:25 AM PST The champions struggled initially under new manager David Moyes, suffering three losses in their opening six league games. But they are unbeaten since September's defeat to West Brom at Old Trafford, a run of nine games, including a win over league leaders Arsenal courtesy of Robin van Persie's goal. It leaves United in fifth place after 11 games going into the international break, and Cleverley is delighted with the progress being made under Moyes. "We didn't want them (Arsenal) to go 11 points ahead of us. It gets us right back in the mix and gets our confidence up," he said. "This is a big win for us as we are ahead of (Manchester) City and not far behind Chelsea. We have also played some very tough games out of our opening 11 fixtures. "I am sure we can get a run together and get right up to the top. It is what everyone predicted at the start of the season - everyone is improving and it makes for a really competitive season." United will now continue their campaign with a trip to Cardiff City on November 24. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Evans issues title race warning to rivals Posted: 11 Nov 2013 05:22 AM PST The defending champions made a poor start to the season by their own high standards, losing three out of six league games. A run of four wins from five matches, though, has propelled United up the table and a 1-0 victory over leaders Arsenal on Sunday means David Moyes' men are fifth heading into the latest international break. Momentum is slowly building under Moyes, who replaced Alex Ferguson in the close-season, and defender Evans has admitted United are focussed on closing the gap between themselves and the teams around them between now and the end of December after beating Arsenal at Old Trafford. "The result was important, especially with Arsenal being top of the league," Evans told the club's official TV station. "Apart from Liverpool, the other teams around us have slipped up, so it was big in terms of the points. "It needed to be a good performance to beat Arsenal, and it was. "We got off to a bad start (to 2013-14), but we talked about it, and we want to be within touching distance of top spot by the Christmas period. "We know that we always finish the season well; we've got experience on our side and we've got history at this great club, so we're in a good position."
