Mata: Enjoying learning from experienced boss Van Gaal Posted: 31 Jul 2014 09:50 AM PDT Whilst United looked fairly clueless last season, with it always unclear what exactly they were trying to achieve, Louis van Gaal has brought a definite vision to the club. With his 3-5-2 formation and specific individual instructions and areas for improvement for his players, Van Gaal is transforming life at United. Juan Mata has praised the new tactics and claimed he is enjoying getting to learn from someone as experienced as Van Gaal. "The manager's new system could be very good for us," he told the official site. "Obviously we need to train more and improve but I think it's very difficult for opponents when we play like this. For me personally, playing behind two strikers is a great position to help me perform at my best level. The first thing the manager told us in pre-season training was that the first three months of this season would be hard, because we had to change our mind-sets and understand what he was trying to do, and there was a new system as well. It will take time to fully adapt but, in the meantime, we are doing our best," Juan continued. "We're enjoying training and the most important thing is that we are learning from him, because he is a very experienced coach." |
Posted: 31 Jul 2014 09:46 AM PDT It’s been so far so good for new signing Ander Herrera, who has looked to be just the type of player United have been crying out for over the past few years. With man of the match performances, ability to split defences with his passes and top vision, Herrera has looked great in the pre-season. The midfielder called the move a “dream come true” when it was completed earlier this summer and he appears to be just as happy now with the decision to leave Spain. “I feel it has gone well for me so far,” Herrera said. “I feel physically good and mentally I’m improving all the time. I’m happy with how I’m doing on the pitch and all the players are helping me in terms of integrating. My confidence is increasing with every game and I’m excited for the season ahead.” |
Pique: LvG pushed me over when I was a kid Posted: 31 Jul 2014 08:41 AM PDT Gerard Pique has claimed that Louis van Gaal will be a success at Manchester United following the disaster of last season. Pique has reflected on when Van Gaal was Barcelona manager and visited the home of Amador Bernabeu, Pique’s grandfather and former vice-president of the club. “I think he will be great,” Pique said. “I didn’t know him a lot because I was really young when he was Barcelona’s coach, but he had a really good relationship with my grandfather, the former vice-president of the club. I had the chance to see him one day at my grandfather’s house when I was 12 or 13 years old. He arrived at the house and he knew I was playing for the Barcelona youth team. He pushed me and I fell to the floor, and he said ‘you are not tough enough to be a centre-back’. So, yes, he really is a disciplinarian, and I think he will do brilliantly here.” |
Zaha: I’m buzzing that Van Gaal gives youth a chance Posted: 31 Jul 2014 03:00 AM PDT Wilf Zaha has been played up front when given a chance in Louis van Gaal’s pre-season, instead of his usual position on the wing. Zaha has claimed he doesn’t really care where he plays, as long as he gets to play for United, and is delighted to hear that the manager is keen to develop young players. “I am used to being a winger, but if a manager wants me to adapt to a new position then I'll have to,” he said. “It's not as much running as being a winger so I'll take it! I have heard he likes to bring young players through so I'm buzzing to hear he will give youngsters a chance. That's all I really wanted since I came here. I just want to be a Man United player. Hopefully this season I will get the chance.” Van Gaal has given Zaha clear instructions on how he needs to improve his game, which the youngster seems more than keen to do. “I have worked on aspects of my game,” he added. “One thing is keeping it simple. Losing the ball is not going to help your team. If I try to over-elaborate and lose the ball, that doesn't help anyone.” |
Vidic: I’m a Manchester United fan Posted: 31 Jul 2014 01:30 AM PDT Nemanja Vidic faced his former club for the first time this week when Manchester United played Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly. United won the game on penalties and Vidic found it strange playing against the likes of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata. "It was strange," he admitted. "I faced Wayne and Mata many times in training but it’s different when you play them in a proper match. But, in a way, I am glad I saw them. They are all happy as well, which I am glad to see. They look like they are enjoying it. It was a good day.” Vidic, like many other players at the club, wasn’t happy with David Moyes last season. However, with so much change under new manager Louis van Gaal, Vidic still believes the time was right for him to move on. "I don't have any regrets,” he continued. “That’s in the past now. I have answered so many questions about it. I think the club is going through transition – United is and so is Inter. I can just speak about what is happening now. What is past is past. What I must do now is look to the future, the same as Man United have to do. I am a fan of Manchester United and I hope both teams do well this year." |
Zaha: I wasn’t Moyes’ cup of tea Posted: 31 Jul 2014 01:00 AM PDT Despite the fact that David Moyes’ system and chosen players didn’t work, with United finishing a woeful 7th in the table after winning the league the season before, Wilf Zaha wasn’t given a chance to prove himself. Whilst he’s obviously not fully developed yet, his pace and ability to running at players surely could have been at asset to United in some games last season, yet he was only given two appearances in the Premier League, both from the bench. Zaha has spoken about his relationship with Moyes today, but doesn’t blame the former United manager for not giving him a chance. “There was so much pressure on him, so I can't really blame him,” said Zaha. “To be honest, if you are not the manager's cup of tea you can't do anything about it. It was definitely not my attitude. The manager had his way of playing and maybe I just didn't suit it. This manager will tell you exactly how he wants it. He won't beat about the bush or not tell you anything. He'll just tell you and that helps you, instead of isolating you or just not telling you. He will let you know exactly where you are and what you are doing wrong.” Zaha is clearly enjoying life at United more now since Louis van Gaal has taken over! |
