Bayern Munich star Kroos - who is currently representing Germany at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil - has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, with United reportedly keen to bolster their engine room following a disappointing seventh-placed finish last season. Louis van Gaal, who will take over as United manager upon the completion of his role with the Netherlands at the World Cup,has already signed midfielderAnders Herreraand Luke Shaw fromAthletic Bilbao andSouthampton respectively. United legend Scholes - who won 11 Premier League titles with the club- believes Kroos would add the quality that United require to return to the elite of world football. "I love watching Toni Kroos," Scholes wrote in his blog forPaddy Power. "I think he's brilliant. I love the way he controls the ball and controls games. He can really play a pass and has superb vision. "Kroos is capable of scoring goals too, from outside the box on either foot. "I just wish Man United had signed him (yes, it is good to see United bringing in new players, but they haven't signed anything like the quality of Kroos)."

Kuyt: Van Gaal best tactician in the world

Posted: 30 Jun 2014 01:41 AM PDT

The Netherlands appeared to be heading for the FIFA World Cup exit door after Giovani dos Santos had given Mexico the lead in Sunday's last 16 clash in Fortaleza. However, midfielder Wesley Sneijder equalised two minutes from the end of normaltime and substituteKlaas-Jan Huntelaar netted the winner from the spot ininjury time after Arjen Robben won a controversial penalty. Kuyt started the game at right-back before making the move up front as Van Gaal changed his system in search of a way back into the contest. However,Van Gaal's key decision came in the 76th minute, withdrawingstar striker Van Persie in favour of Huntelaar;a move that paid dividends as the latter kept his composure to slotinto the bottom corner from 12 yards. And Fenerbahce man Kuyt feels that the 62-year-old - who will take over at Manchester United after the World Cup - is the most tactically astute coach in the game. "He's maybe the best tactically there is in the world," Kuyt said. "It doesn't matter what system we are playing the players know exactly what to do. "He told us before the game already that we could switch system if we were 1-0 down. "We switched to 4-3-3 then 15 minutes before the end of the game he decided to put an extra striker to play longer balls and lookfor second balls and we managed to score a goal so his tactics were once again spot on."
