Vidic: I want to wear my United number at Inter

Posted: 04 Jul 2014 07:06 AM PDT

Nemanja Vidic wore the number 5 shirt when playing for Serbia and number 26 at Spartak Moscow.

Having been unveiled at Inter Milan today, Vidic has said he hopes he gets to wear number 15 in Italy, the name number he wore at United.

"I would like to have number 15, my number,” he said. “But I haven't spoken to anyone about it and I will be happy with it or without it."

There had been rumours that Vidic would captain, with Javier Zanetti retiring, but Vidic insists he is concentrating on getting a starting place in the team first.

"First of all I have to earn a place in the team,” he said. “I want to prepare myself well in pre-season. For me it is more important to settle well and perform well first and foremost. I haven't even thought about it."

Pogba: Scholes is my role model

Posted: 04 Jul 2014 05:32 AM PDT

Paul Pogba, who has been earning plenty of column inches recently thanks to his performances for France at the World Cup, has spoken about which players have inspired him over the years.

Whilst he names several, Paul Scholes and Andrea Pirlo are the two he singles out.

"At the start I was a forward, then a number 10. I liked the trequartista role, I felt at home there," Pogba said. "Then I moved back and it started to be more aggressive technically. That way I had the chance to complete my game. In Italy I have grown further from a tactical point of view. I love to watch the videos [of the matches] and correct my errors on the pitch. I often watch Andrea Pirlo, Yaya Toure but also Gerrard and Lampard. I also like watching videos of the great former players like Zidane and Ronaldo. I look to take the best aspects of their games and mix them up. My role models? Pirlo at Juve and Scholes at Manchester United."

Vidic: Inter one of the biggest clubs… like United

Posted: 04 Jul 2014 01:00 AM PDT

Nemanja Vidic was unveiled as an Inter Milan player earlier today after agreeing to sign for them back in January.

"It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it has won the Champions League and many domestic trophies," said Vidic. "It is a new project of the club and new owner, I like the idea of joining inter and I am sure I made the right choice. I spoke to Dejan Stankovic, he was full of support for the club and people around it. Hopefully, I will keep the Serbian tradition at the club. I also spoke to players I know who have played in Italy and they said it would be a good move for me.”

Vidic was asked whether he thought moving from the Premier League to Serie A was a step down, but he doesn’t think so. Last season, Inter Milan finished 5th in the league, 42 points behind champions Juventus.

“I almost came to Italy 12 years ago, some people say this, but I don't think it is a step down, I think Italian football is suited to the way I play, and I am going to one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he continued. "A few clubs are in transition and some are not where they want to be, but they are moving forward. Italy is different to English football, but certainly won't be easy in Italy. I was shown the project at Inter and I am happy. They explained the ideas at the club and the way the club is moving, how the club works, and what they are trying to do. It seemed very similar to the structure at Manchester United. Erick Thohir wants to build a project and isn't looking at just the next six months. The clubs I have been at before, such as Red Star Belgrade and Spartak Moscow, I have always been part of new projects. And In my career I have always chosen clubs which are moving forward, and I hope to achieve at Inter what I achieved at United.”
