United sell out their season tickets Posted: 12 Jul 2014 09:25 AM PDT Manchester United have confirmed that they have sold out all 55,000 of the available season tickets. This is the fastest sell out since the summer before the 2006-2007 season. Price increases and the automatic cup scheme have put some fans off since then and whilst the club has claimed to have a season ticket waiting list for years, they have been desperate to sell off season tickets at the start of every season. Fans who haven’t renewed have received phone calls and adverts have been put in the paper. Presumably the sacking of David Moyes and the excitement for a new era under Louis van Gaal, as well as the option not to buy all cup tickets, has encouraged the quick sales ahead of 2014-15. ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. bwin Blogger’s League: The Final Posted: 12 Jul 2014 08:21 AM PDT Sunday night signals the end of perhaps one of the more entertaining World Cup Finals in a long time. Both Germany and Argentina were considered pre-tournament favourites. The stereotypically efficient Germans and the flair of Argentina, right? Not quite, in an apparent role reversal Germany have been arguably the most entertaining side so far, their opening 4-0 victory against Portugal and 7-1 demolition of Brazil the notable highlights. On the other hand, Argentina have only scored one goal in the opening ninety minutes of their knockout games, relying on a very tight defence and the pressing of Javier Mascherano to launch counter attacks for the likes of Lionel Messi. Argentina go into the game without the injured Di Maria and his absence was apparent against the Netherlands as Argentina failed to create any clear-cut chances. The team will include three players shortlisted for player of the tournament, keeper Romero, Mascherano and of course Lionel Messi, the three have been the spine of the team throughout the tournament and will all need to have good games if they’re to have any chance of winning their third World Cup and equalling the tally of their German counterparts. Germany head to the final as the tournament’s highest scoring team. Thomas Muller looks to replicate his top goalscorer award from four years ago which would be quite the feat for the 24 year old. Miroslav Klose will be there still on a high from breaking the all-time goalscoring record at the World Cup and look to extend his lead at the top. At the back, the presence of Mats Hummels will be significant as will Lahm’s continuation at right back. Germany have looked far more comfortable at the back with the pair both starting in the back four and they will need to be at the top of their game to keep out Argentina’s plethora of attackers. Manuel Neuer’s sweeper/keeper role will be put to the test tomorrow given the speed of the Argentina players, a quality with which they failed to handle well when they faced off against Ghana. The final looks set to be a great game and Argentina are going to have to play better than they have all tournament, given the amount of games that have made it into extra-time and beyond, the final might well be no different. Chilean press report Vidal is coming to United Posted: 12 Jul 2014 07:53 AM PDT
La Tercera claims that Van Gaal is “obsessed” with with signing Vidal and has been since he was the manager of Bayern Munich. Van Gaal apparently wanted to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen but the midfielder went to Juventus instead. El Mercurio report that United are prepared to break the bank to sign Vidal, but first want to know more about his knee injury. They report they he has been having injections in the area to allow him to play without pain, after returning too quickly from an operation in order to make it to the World Cup. El Mercurio say that United have been in touch with the Chilean team doctor to find out more details. If United are keen to progress after assessing the knee situation, El Mercurio report that United will offer £35m plus Nani to sign Vidal. The English press have today reported that United were in discussions with Vidal’s agent yesterday. The player shares an agent with Alexis Sanchez, Fernando Felicevich, who agreed terms for his move from Barcelona to Arsenal this week. ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview. Germany prepare to lift fourth World Cup Posted: 12 Jul 2014 03:41 AM PDT Germany head into Sunday's World Cup final looking to become the joint-most successful European nation in football by lifting their fourth World Cup. Germany are the favourites, which is why the 4/1 odds on offer for Germany to win the World Cup are a must-grab – get in on the action at William Hill here (exclusive offer for new customers only). Only an Argentina side that has scored two goals in their three knock-out round games stand between Joachim Löw's players and glory. Incredibly, Germany will be playing in their eighth World Cup final and having reached one in each of the past seven decades. This is the first tournament that Argentina have progressed past the quarter-finals since losing to West Germany in the final at Italia '90. Defensively, after looking leaky in the group stages, Argentina have tightened up somewhat by only allowing Belgium and the Netherlands a single shot on target in each of their last two games. Holding Germany to that figure or even close to it seems somewhat of a long shot. Löw's side boasts record World Cup top scorer Miroslav Klose, the intelligent and frequent goalscorer Thomas Müller, the playmaker Toni Kroos and Arsenal's Mesut Özil who is very talented on his day. They are also supported by Bastian Schweingsteiger and Sami Khedira from central midfield and Philipp Lahm bombing on from right-back. Javier Mascherano has been one of the best players in the tournament but I'm not convinced he and the rest of his midfield around can stop this German juggernaut. Germany's defence has been sold too – the only two goals conceded in the knock-out rounds have been late consolations, whilst they kept two clean sheets in the group stage with arguably the world's best goalkeeper between the sticks – Manuel Neuer. Despite a good defensive record of late, Argentina haven't impressed going forward in this World Cup. Germany will look to focus on keeping Messi quiet which in turn will likely prevent Gonzalo Higuaín and Sergio Agüero getting much service. The Manchester City forward himself has had a quiet tournament, affected by injury. Portugal and Brazil have been brushed aside, and France were beaten without getting out of first gear. Surely Germany are only 90 minutes away from winning World Cup number four? They’re such huge favourites that the 4/1 odds (for new customers only) on Germany wining the World Cup is a money-making proposition and a fantastic bet to sign off on the World Cup with. ------------ The Republik of Mancunia has brought out a brilliant downloadable World Cup preview.
