No pressure for Shaw

No pressure for Shaw

Shaw was new manager Louis van Gaals second signing of the close-season, joining United from fellow Premier League club Southampton in a big-money deal at the end of the FIFA World Cup. The England international is expected to shoulder the load at left-back next season after Evra - winner of 15 trophies in eight years at Old Trafford - completed his move to Serie A champions Juventus, despite signing a new deal in May. However, the 19-year-old recruit is taking everything in his stride having already amassed 60 senior appearances for Southampton. I dont feel any pressure to come in for Evra, Shaw said ahead of Uniteds opening International Champions Cup match against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday. He has been great for the club for the last 10 years and I hope I can carry that on. There is always going to be pressure, no matter where you go, but I try not to focus on that. I try to focus on my own game, what I do on the pitch. And with the new gaffer you have to impress on the pitch and that is something I am looking forward to, and hopefully in these pre-season games I am looking to show him what I can do.

Van Gaal happy with preparations

Van Gaal succeeded David Moyes in May but the Dutchman was not officially unveiled to the media until last week due to his FIFA World Cup commitments with the Netherlands. The 62-year-old oversaw his first training session on Thursday before flying out to the United States for the clubs pre-season tour. Speaking ahead of Uniteds opening International Champions Cup fixture against Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday, Van Gaal expressed his pleasure with the players response thus far. I have to say that it has been fantastic, Van Gaal told reporters at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Maybe you think every coach who is new should say that butI mean it. They are anxious to follow the instructions of my assistants. The focusI have seen in the training sessions is top-level but we have to see if the performance is top-level. ButI am very happy with the labourof my players in the daysI have been with them. Uniteds trip to the USA, which will also pit them against Roma, Inter and Real Madrid, is a chance for Van Gaal to assess his playing stocks before adding to the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw. Van Gaal wants to give all his players a chance to prove themselves, including striker Javier Hernandez, who was out of favour last season and has been linked with a move away as a result. I have to see if he performs how I want, said Van Gaal. Now I can only see what he has showed under the guidance of another coach. He will arrive this evening and I will meet him, we will train and after that hewill perform in a match and then I can say something about that. Van Gaal also refused to comment on transfer targets, with the reportedly pursuing Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and defensive duo Mats Hummels and Thomas Vermaelen. I want to learn about my players, to know them and whenI give the orders, I want to see how they perform, he added. That is why I cannot answer this question now. I want to give all the players a chance to show themselves under my guidance. United kick-off their Premier League campaign against Swansea City on August 16.

Klopp laughs off Hummels and Reus speculation

Posted: 22 Jul 2014 04:33 AM PDT

World Cup-winning defender Hummels has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks after a series of impressive displays in Brazil. Hummels has also been a key figure in Dortmund's success in recent years along with forward Reus - widely regarded as one of Europe's finest attacking players. However, Klopp laughed off suggestions the pair were close to leaving the cluband said both will play for Dortmund this season. "I can assure everyone that there are no signs that those two players want to leave," he told Ruhr Nachrichten. "Marco and Mats will play for us [in] the next season. "What are we talking about today? Mats to Manchester United? For how much? €20 million? "With those kind of sums can you forget that straight away."
