Van Persie calms fears over groin injury

The Manchester United striker came off at half-time after Arjen Robben had put the hosts in front at the Amsterdam Arena, with Jeremain Lens doubling the Dutch advantage in a less-than-convincing victory. But Van Persie was quick to reassure fans after the match, insisting that he would be ready to face defending champions Spain in the Netherlands' FIFA World Cup curtain-raiser in Salvador a week on Friday. "You do not (need to) worry. I have a little pain in my groin," he is quoted as tellingSBS 6. "I don't even call it an injury. It (his withdrawal) was more of a precaution. "The game next week is a lot more important." As well as Spain, the Netherlands will come up against Chile and Australia in Group B in Brazil.

Perez brushes off transfer speculation

Posted: 04 Jun 2014 10:41 AM PDT

Perez was key to Benfica's success last season, scoring five goals as the Lisbon club won the Primeira Liga, Taca de Portugal and Taca da Liga while also reaching the final of the UEFA Europa League, only to lose to Sevilla on penalties. The 27-year-old extended his contract until 2018 before linking up with the Argentina squad for the FIFA World Cup. However, Premier League side United and Spanish outfit Valencia are both thought to be keen on acquiring his services, although the former Estudiantes man insists he is happy at Estadio da Luz. "I know about their interest, I have heard about these possibilities and my agent told me about them too," Perez toldO Jogo. "There is the possibility of playing for Valencia, who are a great club, but right now I want to be fully focused on the Argentina national team and on the World Cup. "I am very happy at Benfica, I signed the contract renewal before travelling to join the Argentina squad, which shows that I want to keep wearing this shirt. "I am feeling very well at Benfica and I know the club will try to do the best for me, I'll respect what they decide."

Laporte happy to stay at Bilbao next season

Posted: 04 Jun 2014 06:41 AM PDT

The French defender has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United, but he has outlined his desire to stay at Bilbao. Laporte made 35 La Liga appearances last season as Bilbao finished fourth and secured a place in the UEFA Champions League play-offs for 2014-15. After moving to Spain aged 16, Laporte worked his way through the youth system before breaking into the first team in 2012. And he is adamant his future lies at the San Mames. "Am I going to leave this summer? No, I am happy at Bilbao," he told L'Equipe. "I have a €36 million release clause and if one day a departure could become possible, I would think about it. "Interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich is impressive and rewarding. But I believe you have to take it with a kind of casualness as long as there is nothing concrete. "Barcelona has won everything in recent years. It is a dream for anyone. Bayern are also one of the best teams in the world. "But I repeat, I am under contract at Athletic until 2018. "Would it be a disappointment to stay at Athletic? Not at all. I will remain in a great team, playing in one of the best leagues in the world."

Muller wants Bayern talks over his future

Posted: 04 Jun 2014 05:54 AM PDT

The Germany international added a host of honours to his personal collection last term as Pep Guardiola guided the German champions to another Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal last term. And with Muller set to play a key role for Germany at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the midfielder also wants to ensure his club future is settled. Muller, a product of Bayern's youth system, wants to hold talks with the club to assess whether he is a key part of their future. "I have come to a point where I want to know if I am an important part of tomorrow's starting line-up at Bayern and (also) what the club plans for me in the coming years," he told Bild. "That's why I am looking to have this conversation." Muller has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, with former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal to take over at Old Trafford after the World Cup.

Van Gaal confident of Van Persie fitness

Posted: 04 Jun 2014 03:28 AM PDT

Netherlands coach Van Gaal was appointed as Moyes' successor in May after a dismal campaign that saw United finish seventh in the Premier League. Van Persie struggled with injuries throughout last season but was given permission by Moyes to train in Holland prior to his sacking. And Van Gaal feels the striker will be 100 per cent fit for their World Cup opener against Spain on June 13 partly due to his work in the Netherlands prior to the World Cup. "He is not 100 per cent, but we have two weeks to go. I think he'll be 100 per cent," The Manchester Evening News quotes him as saying. "He is coming out of injury but we built him already up in our federation, our medical department. "It was under the permission of David Moyes. So we could control him, he has worked very hard." Van Persie has scored in both of the Netherlands's pre-FIFA World Cup friendlies against Ecuador and Ghana.
