Moyes: RvP comments taken out of context Posted: 07 Mar 2014 10:39 AM PST Following the Olympiakos defeat, Robin van Persie was accused of criticising his team mates because of comments in made in a post-match interview. Van Persie claimed that some of his team-mates were “often playing in my zones” although his people quickly talked to the press about their surprise that his comments had been interpreted as a criticism. This week, the papers have been full of reports that Van Persie is unhappy but David Moyes, who travelled back to England with Van Persie and Patrice Evra following the France vs Holland game, has dismissed those claims. “I actually travelled back after the game, with Robin and Pat Evra,” Moyes said. “If you actually read the whole transcript I think it was taken out of context… we understand fully. Robin is a really good player and we will do everything possible to make those opportunities work for Robin. A lot of what has been said isn’t correct.” |
Moyes’ Letter To Season Ticket Holders Posted: 07 Mar 2014 03:23 AM PST While I knew that this job would be a challenge when I took it on, the difficult season we have experienced was not something that I envisaged, which I am sure is the case as well for you supporters – and my players, staff and I am desperate to compensate for that. Everywhere we turn people outside the club have a lot to say about Manchester United, but we have all stuck together through some tough times this season and I firmly believe that, in the long run, we will all come out at the other end, stronger for the experiences. Everything we need have been through will make us a better, stronger team and club in the future. Over the years you have seen great winning sides here and, in time, I have absolutely no doubt that we will see great winning sides here again. A big step towards that will be transforming Old Trafford back into the fortress it has long been renowned as, and we will do everything in our power to get the positive performances and results to do that, so that we can give you Season Ticket holders and all of our supporters something to shout about. |
Three central defenders that could replace Nemanja Vidic Posted: 03 Mar 2014 11:13 PM PST Manchester United look set to splash the cash this summer, with a host of new players expected at Old Trafford ahead of next season. One of the priorities will be a new central defender to replace the outgoing Nemanja Vidic, who has agreed to sign for Inter Milan. Given the no-nonsense Serb's authority over the side in his time in England, a player of considerable ability will be needed to take his place. The odds on who will replace Vidic are as open as those for Cheltenham 2014 online, with no clear favourite to fill the outgoing skipper's boots. Could one of these three be the answer? Mats Hummels The Germany international has been a key part of the Borussia Dortmund side that has challenged for honours at both domestic and European level in recent seasons. Although suffering from injury concerns this season, Hummels is widely expected to take to the pitch for Germany in their opening fixture in the World Cup in Brazil. Hummels has an enviable blend of physical attributes and a strong reading of the game, with Barcelona linked with a move for the Dortmund man recently. Eliaquim Mangala This giant defender has created quite a stir over the last 18 months, with Mangala a rock at the heart of the Porto defence. He has been given his bow at international level for France and is being spoken of as the next star to leave the current Portuguese champions for one of Europe's top clubs. United could face a challenge to sign the 23-year-old, who is fast on his feet, dominant in the air but also susceptible to a mistake at times. Mehdi Benatia An experienced defender having plied his trade in both France and Italy, Benatia has been a revelation since joining Roma from Udinese in the summer. The Morocco international has been one of the main reasons for the Stadio Olimpico side's Serie A challenge and is already being linked with a move to some of Europe's elite sides. At 26 Benatia has his best years ahead of him but has plenty of experience and authority to potential offer United. |
