The 32-year-old completed a medical on Wednesday, and has penned a deal that will see him stay with the Scottish Premiership outfit until the end of the season. Djemba-Djemba had most recently been with Serbian side Partizan, but he was deemed surplus to requirements and had his contract cancelled in December. St Mirren have acted swiftly to tie up a deal for the Cameroon international, and he adds to the permanent signing of Gregg Wylde and loan deals for Aberdeen's Josh Magennis and Newcastle United's Adam Campbell, who all joined in the January transfer window. Having started his career with Nantes in France, Djemba-Djemba earned a move to Premier League champions Manchester United in 2003, but after an unsuccessful stint he moved to fellow English top-flight side Aston Villa. Djemba-Djemba has also had spells at the likes of Burnley, Odense and Hapoel Tel Aviv. He has been capped on 24 occasions by Cameroon, and collected a winner's medal at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations as well as playing at the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan in the same year. St Mirren currently occupy ninth position in the Scottish Premiership.

Xavi: I will never play in the Premier League

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 09:22 AM PST

The 34-year-old has often been linked with a move to England's top flight, with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all reported to have expressed an interest. Xavi has had a trophy-laden career at Camp Nou, with seven La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League victories among his haul of silverware. The Spain international concedes there are times he would have "loved" to have played in England, but he could not entertain the thought of playing for another team. "There was always talk United or Chelsea or City and Arsenal wanted to sign me but never anything concrete," Xavi told The Sun. "My thinking was always clear. I am such a Barcelona fan, so my first, second and third option is always Barca. "I never thought of leaving like Cesc Fabregas, who went to Arsenal. "I want to be here forever. If I am not at Barcelona, I will always be thinking of Barca. If I had played for City, United, Arsenal or Chelsea, I'd keep asking what is going on at Barca - my club. "All the big English clubs know getting Xavi is impossible. They know Xavi is a fan of Barcelona, he won't come. "I've no regrets at all, but I still think at times that I would have loved to play in England. You 'live' football over there. "People respect you more. It's more difficult to find respect in Spain. There is more criticism here. In England, a player who's won many things is more respected than in Spain. "It's not happened because my dream, my feeling and my idea was to be at Barcelona. Forever."

Anderson eyes long-term Fiorentina stay

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 08:13 AM PST

Anderson moved to the Serie A outfit from Manchester United until the end of the season during the January transfer window, and has made three appearances for his new club so far. The 25-year-old struggled for a lack of game time under new United manager David Moyes, and says the move to Italy is exactly what he needed to reignite his career. "I have to play and have my chance," he toldThe Sun. "It is better for me at Fiorentina. The manager wants me and has shown his trust. I can show him my football. "Even though the contract is only on loan, I want to stay for a long time." Despite rarely being selected by Moyes, Anderson insists he holds no ill feelings towards the Scot, before going on to hail the ambition of his new club. "To be honest, I've not had the chance (to play)," he said. "He gave me one chance or a half, but not a lot. He is the manager and I have to respect him. He treated me well and he has a lot of players. "Fiorentina are a great team with an ambitious project. I want to win in Florence like important players of the past like Edmundo and (Gabriel) Batistuta. "Everyone knows Fiorentina can progress a lot in Italy and in European competition."
